My Own Everest

Exams are over and I have officially run out of excuses to not run (until my research attachment program kicks in on November, but I have a plan to fight any laziness coming my way!). As I'm writing this, I'm signing up for a Sprint distance marathon next year--the Bintan Triathlon. For a girl who can't swim freestyle and is scared of cycling (I was an unfortunate victim of a road accident a year ago), this is a huge step! And I'm pretty sure once I've paid the (expensive) entrance fee I'd be asking myself why the hell am I doing this?

It's well established that everyone needs a goal in their endeavours to motivate them and spur them on. And then, along the way to reaching that goal, there should be smaller goals--stepping stones--set in place to help you make that big leap. My goal is to be fit, not flab. The easiest way to encourage myself is to spend precious money on races and force myself to do my best for them. Plus, it's a great way to keep track of my progress.

So with the end of the year fast approaching (so fast?), I'm going to review my goals for this year.

[X]Gold for NAFA
[X]Start running regularly
[X]Run a 5K race
[  ]Run a 10K race

By the end of the year, forbidding any injuries, I would have finished those two goals. Yay me!

So what about 2010?

[  ]Full marks for NAFA (Standing Broad Jump, meet pylometric exercises!)
[  ]Blaze annual school cross-country event (at least a medal--or Top 10, please?)
[  ]Try a Triathlon (Sprint)
-Singapore Sprint Series: Biathlon, Duathlon and Triathlon
-OSIM International Triathlon
[  ]Fast 10K (subhour?)
[  ]Half marathon
[  ]Singapore Biathlon
[  ]Cycle Singapore
[  ]Trail runs

Whoopsie-doo, that sure is a long list! I really hope I'm not overestimating myself here, but you know what they say--always aim for the stars; even if you miss, you'll at least reach the clouds.

Jiayou, fat girl!
